What is Thermography?

Thermography is a radiation free, state-of-the-art screening procedure that uses heat detection to locate areas of temperature difference in the body. Taking your temperature has always been a primary way to access illness. Thermography shows areas that need further evaluation or re testing in a suggested period of time. It has no risks and can be used for all breast types.

Most pathological processes demonstrate a form of increased heat, and some neurological processes show excessive cold. Breast disease can be detected by looking for areas of excessive or increasing heat that may indicate areas of angiogenesis or increase of blood vessels supplied be a growing tumor.

Thermography was cleared by the FDA in 1982 as an adjunctive procedure for breast screening. For several years Medicare paid for this screening until the radiology lobbyists in Washington were directed to lobby against Thermography as radiologists felt this radiation-free procedure would be used as a substitute for mammography.

There are over 800 published studies in peer-reviewed journals about thermography of the breast alone. A 2008 study at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in Cornell was published in the American Journal of Surgery showing a 97% sensitivity, meaning that only 3% of breast pathologies found by other means did not show up on a thermo scan.

University of Wisconsin study shows 70% of tumors can be identified on a thermogram 8-10 years prior to a mammogram. A tumor found this early allows the person to make lifestyle changes, have a repeat scan in a few months and compare the scans for changes. This early notification may avoid a major health crisis.

Just the Facts

Success Rate

There are over 800 published studies in peer-reviewed journals about thermography of the breast alone. Most of these articles show the success rate of breast thermography greater than 90%.

70000

Overdiagnosed Women

In the U.S. alone, a 2008 study shows roughly 70,000 women overdiagnosed by mammograms; this accounted for 31% of all breast cancers diagnosed.

One in Eight

Current research indicates that 1 in every 8 women in the US will get breast cancer in their lifetime.

Rebecca Reverie

Certified Thermography Technician

Although I was unaware at the time, my career change and passion for Breast Thermography began in 2010 when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. My mother’s passion for natural healing lead her to Thermography as a safe alternative to mammograms. In our search for this noninvasive, radiation free and compression free breast scan we became aware that availability was limited and there was a need for this service. In August of 2014 my mother and I became Certified Thermography Technicians. Once certified I began and built a reputable business in Eastern PA. I have recently moved to Canaan, NH and I am offering Breast Thermography in the Upper Valley. I believe that knowledge is power. I provide women with valuable information about their breast health only available through thermography.

My Interpreting Doctor

William C. Amalu, DC

DABCT, DIACT, FIACT Pacific Chiropractic and Research Center

All of our scans are interpreted by William C. Amalu, DC of Pacific Chiropractic and Research Center, Redwood City, CA 94063

William Amalu, DC brings over 23 years of thermal imaging experience to patient care.

Similar to a radiologist who reads x-rays for outside offices, Dr. Amalu is a board certified thermologist who also reads thermograms for outside imaging centers. He currently provides thermogram interpreting services for many imaging centers worldwide.

In his capacity as a board member of the International Academy of Clinical Thermology, Dr. Amalu instructs physicians worldwide in the science and interpretation of thermal imaging. He also lectures worldwide in both university and public venues to increase awareness and utilization of this lifesaving procedure.

Dr. Amalu's personal experience with breast cancer has left him with a determination to do all he can to prevent other women from going through this terrible disease. On October 6, 1999, he lost his step-sister Robin to a 5 year battle with breast cancer. At the age of 47, she left two young daughters and the love of her life. She had faithfully listened to her doctor and had both physical exams and mammograms as recommended. Her mammograms did not detect her tumors, first in one breast and then later in the other. The sizes of the lumps were large, easily felt, and not detected on the images. What if breast thermography had been readily available to Robin? If we could make breast thermography available to women on a broader scale, the face of this horrible disease would be changed worldwide. Over thirty years of clinical use and more than 8,000 peer- reviewed studies in medical literature have established thermography as a safe and effective screening tool. The procedure has been cleared by the FDA since 1982. Thermography uses no radiation, compression or patient contact to achieve its images. We pride ourselves with prompt turnaround. In most cases, our Board Certified Thermographers will have the results back to your center in 1 week or less. We have 3 interpreters viewing your images for optimal reporting. You will receive both gray (vascular) images and colored (heat variances).
What is my next step if a Thermogram report shows suspicious pathology?
Take appropriate action (discuss your options with you thermographer) and be sure to follow-up as recommended by our doctors and yours. Many times thermal scans are able to pick up cancerous changes before other standard tests, which provides the ability to act swiftly and appropriately. For example, thyroid heat may be found long before a blood test will show signs of thyroid dysfunction. It is well advised to work with a doctor familiar with thermal imaging and its life saving ability. We have doctors available for consultation through PACT.
Please help educate your doctor. Even the “best doctors” at times reject new ideas and new technology. Chances are they are misinformed, or not informed at all. The studies on our site come from well respected medical journals.
Not at this time. Keep in mind, cutting edge technology is not covered in most fields of medicine. Our centers charge a nominal fee for this technology despite the high cost of the equipment and the cost of running a center. Insurance coverage should not keep you away. Think of all of the other less important things we spend our money on!
Our centers charge based on regional factors. Typically, the range is $199-$499, depending on the type of scan being requested. The price is inclusive for the images, interpretation and report.
The purpose of the thermographic evaluation is to show areas of hot and cold in the body. Thermographic imaging is greater than 99% accurate for this purpose. Therefore we can say there are no false positives with thermal imaging. Heat can be present due to many factors. There is no such thing as normal inflammation in the body. This is due to a pathological process or injury.
